Our Background
APICCO was established in July of 2019 when Civic Leadership USA (CLUSA) Executive Director convened a meeting of API Leaders. The participants agreed to work together to promote the common goals of all API ethnic communities. In 2021, APICCO was granted its 501(c)(3) non-profit status and created a paid internship program, placing five API students in legislative offices in Oregon. APICCO’s interns complete a rigorous program including: an orientation, workshops, and assignments.
They also participated in Civic Leadership Academy’s Student Project Consulting Session and the National Showcase Award Ceremony. APICCO’s projects and accomplishments include an internship kickoff celebration, virtual Internship graduation celebration, Vietnamese speaking focus group facilitation, holiday celebration, and Emergency Broadband Benefits program that gives free cell phones and internet services to underserved communities
